I’ll admit I have a serious love of all things vintage. Furniture, houses, clothing, movies, cars and of course campers. I thought it might be fun to explore some of these topics so I’m going to begin with clothing. Top of my list for vintage style icons are Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy, Doris Day, and Audrey Hepburn to name a few. My favorite decade for fashion is probably the 1950s. What makes this era so magical for me is the seemingly effortless style. Exquisitely tailored dresses, suits and pants, gorgeous lace fabrics, soft colors…it was just a cavalcade of beauty, glamour and romance!
Look at the 1955 movie “To Catch a Thief” starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant (any Cary Grant movie is excellent in my book 😉). Grace’s style is iconic!! For that matter, so was Cary’s. Who didn’t dream of being as beautiful and elegant as Grace? Duchess Kate certainly seems to emulate her style.
Grace Kelly went on to marry Prince Ranier of Monaco and her classic wedding dress is still one of my all time favorites! It’s been said that Kate Middleton took her wedding dress inspiration from Grace Kelly’s iconic wedding dress and I can see why!
And who hasn’t admired Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress. I remember seeing pictures of her wedding dress as a young teenager and thinking I wanted something that beautiful when I got married some day.
I love that today’s wedding gowns are seeing a resurgence of the glamorous 1950’s style. We’re seeing lots of gorgeous lace, full skirts and embellished detail at the waist which all lends to their stunning silhouettes. Honestly, I think I’d have a difficult time nowadays picking my perfect dress!
